Sorry a leak happened. I've had three, two with a Hollister product and one with a Coloplast product (which you apparently use). Leaks aren't fun. (Side note: I've seen the leak before with myself, and reliving it by looking at these pictures wasn't fun).
I use Convatec's Sur-Fit Natura system now, and I haven't had any leaks with it. If you can tolerate the tape, maybe it'd work better for you.

Thanks for these pictures and the stories. I also have Crohn's Disease, going on 7 years now, and after a recent CT scan, my doctor has recommended surgery. I'm having to face the possibility of living with a bag, and am scared shitless about it.
How sensitive is the exposed intestine? I had no idea so much stuck out. Ahhh... Damn you remicade... you should work forever.

hey Anonymous...
the stoma itself isn't sensitive at all. just like you can't feel it working inside you, you won't be able to feel it outside!!

Sticking out is good, as that means the bag *shouldn't* leak as often.
I can feel my stoma sometimes--not when I touch it--but when output is passing through it. Nothing that is terribly painful though. It just feels odd.

Nice pictures:) I just had a similar leak last night and then happened to come by and read your blog. I was so happy to see I was not alone after all...

good documentation:) have you tried EAKIN COHESIVE rings? I really recommend them, they are better than paste..

About the sensitivity, yeah, I should have been more specific. I definitely notice pressure - like I can tell when I'm passing something substantial, and I can sometimes sense if it's coming (but that sensation took awhile to develop).
And about the rings... I did try them, although since my stoma is more oval-shaped than round, I had to cut them in half and either overlap them or get all finicky with how I cut them so they would fit together. I found it wasn't worth it.

Have you tried the paste strips instead of the tube paste? It's stiffer and doesn't need to 'setup' like paste but still can be molded. I make an O-ring out of it to place around my stoma before setting my flange. It keeps me sealed with average 6-7 days wear time. Doesn't sting like the paste either on broken/open skin. The way your stoma dips at the top I can see you'd have to be cafeful about output getting under your seal.
Enjoyed reading your blog. Don't recall how I found it. Ostomy search of some sort. Good work on your series of pictures documenting a blowout and bag change for the uninitiated.
I agree that seafood has to be the worst for ostomates... And anybody within range of the smell! I still enjoy it regularly just never raw due to a liver transplant immunocompromised thing.

Thank you so much for all this information. This was helpful for me to understand what someone with a recent colostomy is going through, since I am not with them right now.

Wow... that pretty much sums up my day as well. I'm glad I found this site I hope I can link you on mine?
thanks,

I've been there many times. I have had most of my leaks with Hollister. I use Convatec, which seems to work better for me. I enjoy your blog and look forward to reading it more in the future!

try using coloplast#14404 I love them there slightly convex but works really well against leakage, my stoma sticks out about the same as yours and I still use the slight
convex, I also notice that you seem
to cut the wafer to large, I think that's why your having leakage problems. contact coloplast they have great one piece systems and just came out with a new one, they
will send samples out to you, don't
forget try slight convex and cut alittle smaller if you still have alittle leakage they also make great barrier rings that go under the pouch.
